Tombstone Track Running their Way to State

Nine teammates from the Yellow Jacket track and field team will be competing at the State Championships on Friday.

Joe Thomas, coach of the track and field team, said he is expecting a good outcome at State from Dominic Sanders and Will Boberg. The duo will be competing in the 4×1 and 4×4 relays together and will also be competing in individual races.

The Yellow Jackets will be seen in the 200 meter, 400 meter, and 800 meter dashes. The team will also compete in the triple jump, and long jump, discus, and the 300 meter hurdles.

Thomas says he will be pushing the kids hard all week to prepare for the competition. He will be holding an event day on Wednesday where the team will focus on practicing for their specific event.

The group started with a 17-man roster at the beginning of the season but has dwindled to 10 team members.

Nine of those 10 have qualified for the state meet on May 9.

Thomas said, “We have a small group but the team is looking good for their events. They’ve worked hard all season, and hopefully we do well this weekend.”

The Yellow Jackets will leave for the two day event at Mesa Community College on Friday morning and compete until Saturday.
